Annual Art Festival Raises Awareness And Funding for Families in Need

DUNEDIN, FL — OCTOBER 25, 2021: Anne Mitton joined the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin (JLCD) to build a deeper connection with her neighbors. Along with other dedicated women, she has taken JLCD’s vision for a better community to help build a long-lasting impact on the growing number of families battling chronic hunger and poverty in North Pinellas County. JLCD, a nonprofit organization with over 400 women committed to making a difference in the community, will continue that mission through its annual Art Harvest, Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7, 2021, which will help raise awareness and funding for families in need.

Held on the first weekend in November at Highlander Park in Dunedin, Art Harvest, started over 57 years ago as a small arts gathering, has evolved into a highly respected juried show of high-quality art with balanced media featuring nearly 200 artists. It has become one of the largest autumn art shows in the Tampa Bay area drawing nearly 30,000 people of all ages annually. This family-friendly event will feature various artists’ booths, food vendors, and a children’s area complete with art activities.

“Each year since joining, I have had the great pleasure of distributing food or hygiene essentials to children living in food deserts,” Mitton said. “When I joined, I didn’t realize JLCD would not only help me connect with the people around me but also mold me into a better leader in my community.”

The Junior League of Clearwater and Dunedin has been a driving force behind initiatives and institutions that make our community a healthier, more vital place to live. JLCD currently impacts the community through various projects such as awarding community and education grants, and legislative advocacy. Since their inception in 1948, the members have raised more than one million dollars and contributed over one million volunteer hours to their local community.

Dedicated community partners have helped the event raise nearly $85,000 in the last five years. Art Harvest is sponsored in part by Publix Charities and the City of Dunedin. Proceeds from the event will help fund community projects to assist families.
