Description

What is Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI)?

The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a poverty awareness and fundraising campaign that underscores the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin’s commitment to building public awareness around hunger and poverty in our local community.

To coincide with Poverty Awareness Month in January, participating League members will wear the same black dress for five days to illustrate the effects poverty can have on a woman’s access to resources, confidence, and opportunities.

During these five days, members will share local statistics about poverty and food insecurity on social media and will ask for donations towards our efforts to fight poverty in North Pinellas County.

When is LBDI?

Our League will participate in the LBDI January 24-28, 2022.

Our goal for this effort in 2022 is to raise $15,000.

Where Will My Donations Go?

The funds raised make possible the community work of the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin. All donations are fully tax-deductible.

A few of the ways the JLCD is using LBDI donor gifts to combat poverty-related issues in our community include:

  • We currently fund “Calvin’s Closet” with food, clothing, and hygiene items. This initiative helps children at Calvin A. Hunsinger School (a Title 1 alternative school in Clearwater, FL) do their best in school and work towards providing equity in the seen disparity in nutrition and health status through North Pinellas
  • We partner with local community providers such as Cops n Kids, in Tarpon Springs, which offer no-cost after-school childcare for school-age children.
  • We donate books and sponsor literacy events for students at Tarpon Springs Elementary and Sandy Lane Elementary.
