Hope Villages of America

2022-2023 Legacy Grant recipients.

On Saturday July, 22nd JLCD partnered with Hope Villages of American as our ’22-’23 Legacy Grant Recipient for a diaper drive and giveaway.

Legacy grant recipient, Hope Villages of America Florida State Senator and CEO, Nick Diceglie, and VP, Melvin Thomas were in attendance. Helene Dalmanieras and Kelly Rodowsky were there to represent JLCD.

Hope Village of America noted; “…the $1,000 grant enabled us to purchase diapers and formula, allowing us to extend a helping hand to parents in need. With the backing of the Junior League, we were able to make a significant impact, providing much-needed support to families in our community. The smiles and gratitude we received from parents during the event touched our hearts, reminding us of the profound difference we can make when we come together.”

Sandy Lane Elementary Backpack Packing Event

In July, JLCD members join community partners for the Sandy Lane Elementary Backpack Packing Event. Our members, along side our community partners, form an assembly line and pack over 300+ backpacks full of school supplies in less than 1 hour! JLCD also provides the funding for the purchase of the backpacks, which are given to every single student at Sandy Lane Elementary school.

Volunteer Management and Coordination

  • Develop a volunteer opportunity calendar

Calvin’s Closet

In 2021, JLCD launched The Calvin’s Closet initiative in partnership with Calvin A Hunsinger School, a Title 1 alternative school in Clearwater, FL. The Calvin’s Closet project provides students with access to food, clothing, and hygiene products. JLCD has made a multi-year commitment of over $20,000 to fund this program and meet the basic needs of students and their families in a location that is convenient for them. The closet is intended to provide the children and their families the fuel to do their best and work towards providing equity in the seen disparity in nutrition and health status through North Pinellas.

Done in a Day (DIAD) Projects

The Done-in-a-Day (DIAD) program manages requests for volunteers on short-term projects within the service area of the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin. The Community ANGELS committee works with current and past League programs as well as charities and community organizations that are not otherwise connected to the League. Consideration is given to groups within the League’s strategic focus of the Alliance to Nurture Grow and Enhance Life Skills (ANGELS) for children in the foster system and must related directly to foster children and families. To be considered, the request must come from a non-profit organization and be for a single event or project.

An application  must be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the project date. A committee member will contact the organization to discuss details of how JLCD can help and to ensure that we can meet the needs of the organization for the particular event. Please see the DIAD guidelines  for more information.

We look forward to working with you toward strengthening our communities!

Past Projects

In addition to the programs and projects currently provided to the communities of Northern Pinellas County, the Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin has supported other programs with dollars and volunteers. While this is not a comprehensive list of all of the projects we have participated in, it does highlight some of our achievements and illustrates our commitment to making a difference in the communities where our members live.
